What have you learned from your audience feedback?
The audience feedback was varied. The positive focused on the use of the long take and the line of dialogue ‘Get the fuck on the floor!’ as a source of amusement almost. Besides the line of dialogue, the trailer was fairly easy to follow and understand a basic story line. With the difficulty to agree on a storyline firstly, and then get a basic foundation in stone we were hindered to get going. However, when we could find a middle ground of editing that brought us together, it was easier to practice and edit. The feedback was good with comments about the music fitting the piece well, and suits the overall feel of the trailer.
One issue that arose was the title. A majority of the audience agreed that ‘Vault’ wasn’t too fitting for the piece which brought a confusion to find a title that fit the movie. We thought about it thoroughly until a class member suggested ‘Podium’ which was quite fitting as a pun. The lack of time to re-create each poster and magazine from scratch once more hindered us. Although ‘Podium’ is more fitting, the title of ‘Vault’ also fits the criteria that we had set.
The poster received good feedback with claims that the work looked real and authentic; however, the inability to feature the ‘The Expendables’ image hindered the poster’s construction. We had to work around the copyrighted images, but we had a basic foundation for the magazine and could follow the feedback confidently.
However, if we were to do it again, a stronger sense of team work would be needed to improve the footage and poster work as a trio. We all brought different strengths to the group which benefited in different ways. As a group, we could have worked on the idea to a deeper level, working through to every detail to reduce the time taken to begin the editing process of knowing where to begin.
