Vault Poster;

14th February 10

When working with the original image [below] I began to think about how to work the poster to represent the movie. The initial shot of Tom holding the gun at the camera is taken from the trailer and I personally really liked.

This I used my actions to saturate the image to a redish colour. I copied Tom over the Tom over the top to leave him visible with colour enhancing. This gave me this effect, which I think worked well for the image.

However, the image didn’t have enough space at the top so I copy and pasted the top thin layer to create more space to work with to end with this as the product.

With the foundation photograph I could then start to place over the reviews that I have planned. I needed to fill the space around Tom, so I had the review from Radio 5’s Mark Kermode as he helped to distribute independent movies, so I used his authority and style leader status to promote my movie to that target audience.

When asking for feedback a friend suggested that I used textures to give the image more grit to it. I looked online for textures are well as pictures provided out of pure kindness to experiment with the image below.

I made Tom stand out against the textured background which I personally think makes him stand out, but also gives him more focus, and the gun barrel the main focus point. Following this came a suggestion that I could try and blur the background to a motion blur 0/112 which came out well. Below is shown with the title of the movie and the same style I used for the background as well as the text. I think that it gives the text that abstract look that delivers a sense of the movie taking the audience on different twists and turns

I like this effect because it’s got a different tone to it than a normal imagine put on the screen. The editing I think makes Tom looks iconic, against the dark background he looks clear - this builds an rapport with the viewer as he is aiming the gun directly at them. I like this effect for the text as a friend had commented on when giving feedback and suggestions on how to make the poster clearer and to the point.

The productions line above the title was added to the image to reiterate the independent film company.  I added the second review by James King who also helps to promote the movie also. I moved the stars are recommended by a friend and I could then begin to add text to the poster. The bottom text included the members in the group and people who had acted for us and offered their help. I did not mention everybody as I was focused solely on having a basis for comments. I then added the logo made by Ashvina and I to represent ‘Hashypie Productions’ and the release date. I chose the release date as the 18th of August is the birthday of one of my favourite music artists, G-Dragon. There are blood stains on the letters and stars to show the genre and that some violence is to be expected. Then the logos for BFI and ICO[Independent Cinema Office] and the poster was almost completed

I added the website link and we have the finished movie poster. This is just one possibility, and I created this due to my interested in photoshop and I have learned new skills from making this piece.
